Welcome to our Seventh Season of Great Chamber Music in the acoustically superb and historically preserved Windham Centre for the Performing Arts in the former Centre Presbyterian Church Building.
It is our honor and pleasure this season to be entering a partnership with Peter and Sarah Finn and the Catskill Mountain Foundation. Their creative work is an inspiration to all of us. Plato has said: "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything." We also think that music is a great way to bring people together, and that this partnership is a great thing for the entire Mountaintop Area.
This past winter, two of the world's greatest jazz pianists, Bill Charlap on December 28th and Lynne Arriale on January 18th, really warmed up the hall with some great chamber jazz. There will be two jazz concerts again this season: the great jazz duo of Adam Makowicz and George Mraz will heat things up on December 27th of this year, and the renowned Bill Mays Trio will perform on January 17th, 2004. And we have added a chamber music concert this fall as well, featuring the exceptional Il Barocco Italiano on October 4th.
But first, our summer season begins on July 12th with soprano Judith Kellock, MET Orchestra Principal Trumpeter Mark Gould and the Windham Festival String Orchestra in Baroque gems for soprano, trumpet and strings along with Dvorak's beautiful Serenade for Strings. On July 26th the wonderful Principal Harpist of the MET Orchestra, Deborah Hoffman, returns for her third appearance, this time joined by one of the greatest flutists before the public today, Tara Helen O'Connor. On August 9th the distinguished Zapolski String Quartet will make its debut with the ever-popular pianist Volodymyr Vynnytsky, and on August 16th violin virtuoso Arturo Delmoni and the elegant pianist Yuri Funahashi will be featured in an evening entitled: Four Violinists, a Pianist and the Dvorak Quintet. The summer season officially ends on August 30th with the brilliant Roerich String Quartet along with the wonderful clarinetist Alan R. Kay. However, as noted above, we have extended the season into fall this year, with a concert of baroque gems performed by the uniquely talented Il Barocco Italiano on October 4th.
Your support has made it possible for us to build an ongoing chamber music festival that attracts world-class performers to Windham, "the Gem of the Catskills." Your donations are essential to our continued survival.
Won't you help us to ensure the continuation of this important cultural attraction to the Windham area?
Thank you so much!
