The Bill Mays Trio, with bassist Martin Wind and drummer Matt Wilson, is one of the most inventive and empathetic among today’s jazz groups. Bill Mays has been described as having "a supreme improvisational prowess" and as "one of the masters of color and touch among today’s pianists." Jeff Bradley of the Denver Post has said of Bill that "you know you are in the presence of a master." Along with over one hundred recordings to his credit (including thirteen under his own name), Bill's concert and studio credits include a who's who of modern music, everyone from Frank Sinatra to Frank Zappa. In addition to leading his own groups, Bill’s resume includes the most important jazz musicians of the era: Ron Carter, Al Cohn, Eddie Daniels, Ray Drummond, Benny Golson, Mel Lewis, Charles McPherson, Bob Mintzer, Gerry Mulligan, Rufus Reid, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Marvin Stamm, Clark Terry, Toots Thielemans, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Paul Winter and Phil Woods. He has played such notable New York venues as Birdland, the Blue Note, Bradley's, Carnegie Hall, the Guggenheim Museum, the Iridium, the Jazz Standard, Lincoln Center, MOMA, Smoke, Steinway Pianos, the Village Gate and the Village Vanguard.
