The Zapolski String Quartet was formed in 1993 by violinist and composer Alexander Zapolski. It was soon recognized as one of Denmark's leading quartets and has had an increasing number of concert and recording activities around the world. The quartet collaborates frequently with the Danish Cultural Institute and has played at festivals in Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Austria and Scandinavia, including the prestigious Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland. In the summer of 2001 they debuted in the United States at Music Mountain in Falls Village, CT, and were immediately invited to return the following summer.
A frequent performer at Grazhda in Lexington, NY, Volodymyr Vynnytsky is a much sought-after concerto soloist with orchestras in the U.S. and Europe. He made his debut with the Windham Chamber Music Festival in 1998, performing Gershwin and Copland; in 2000, he dazzled the audience in Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #5 and Liszt's Mephisto Waltz, and in 2001 he shared an All-Chopin program with jazz pianist Adam Makowicz. This will be Volodymyr's sixth appearance in Windham.
